How to Be Yourself
Table of Contents
You know what—this life teaches you one very important thing: be authentic. Be who you truly are. Don’t mold yourself according to what people like. Don’t change yourself based on others.
My Experience at 19
I’m 19 years old, and I’ve experienced this so much in my life. I kept putting myself behind. I told myself, “No, I have to consider others, I have to adjust according to them so they stay happy, satisfied, and no one finds any fault in me.”
But you know what happened? I ended up getting hurt instead. I got so hurt—so deeply hurt—because I tried so hard to shape myself according to people, pushed myself to the very back, and still they complained about me. Still, they weren’t happy with me.
The Truth About People
The truth is, people are never fully satisfied with you. In their eyes, you can never be perfect. You change yourself so much for them, yet they still don’t understand you. And here, by “people,” I don’t mean strangers—I mean your close ones: friends, siblings, relatives, etc.
You do so much for them, sacrifice yourself, but they never truly understand you. They never give you the love you deserve. So understand this clearly: from now on, stay in your authentic version. Be who you are.
Stay in Your Authentic Version
Let people go to hell. If you like something, you like it. If they don’t like it, let them not like it. If you didn’t feel like laughing at something, then don’t laugh. Why do you do everything just to keep others happy? In the end, your condition becomes so bad, and then no one comes to help you or support you.
Why do you try to become something you are not just to gain people’s love and attention? Why shouldn’t it be this way—you should have your own style of talking, your own way of being. Because you are unique. Allah has made you unique.
If you live as your real self, don’t copy anyone, keep your authentic version in front of people—if you haven’t done this yet, start now. You’ll see a very positive and beautiful change. Because you’ll get tired of wearing different masks for others.
When you stay in your real self, the people who truly belong to you will love you for who you are. You won’t need to be fake. Whatever happened in the past is done—but from now on, remember this: be who you are, without fear.
Adore your authenticity. Because your vibe is your vibe. Never make yourself feel low—never. Enjoy your vibe and live well. There’s no need to lie. Be who you are.
Accept Your Emotions
If you’re feeling down sometimes, that’s okay—because we are human. What’s wrong with that? It’s impossible to never feel sad because of someone. Why try to be perfect? You’re human, and you will feel many things.
There’s no issue in that. You don’t need to pretend to be rich or show yourself as something else. Be who you are—that is your true beauty. So many people are middle class; adore that. There’s no need to feel inferior about it.
Materialism literally means nothing. The real thing is a person’s character—nothing else. Money only provides comfort; it’s not a measure of worth. People should never be judged on that basis. The real thing is your character.
